Excellent food and warm atmosphere

Here at The Rosemary, you’ll enjoy home-made Hungarian food in a cosy atmosphere while Mihaly Herczeg, the owner and his friendly team serves you with heart and soul.

Farm to table

We make all the food ourselves. From bread to cottage cheese, soups and sauces, noodles and pancakes, we make it all from scratch, so we can ensure you’ll say “Mmmmmm, it was the best I have ever had.” every time you dine here. We source the finest organic ingredients from carefully selected certified organic farms.

We are happy to help you choose from the list of genuine and authentic Hungarian specialties like goulash, lecso (Ratatouille), chicken paprikas, stuffed cabbage, gipsy roast, somloi (sponge cake) and many more. The menu comes complete with an extensive selection of organic wines curated by the sought-after sommelier, Roland Szimeiszter.

Caring for our guests and the environment

Mihaly ‒ featured in the book Lost in London by Lucy Scott ‒ and his business partner, Jozsef are popular figures of the community supporting local causes and events. They used to run a garden centre and then a high-end pub before opening Rosemary. Jozsef majored in vinery at university and has a key role in laying the foundations of the restaurant’s rich wine offering.

Coming from a long line of Hungarian farmers, Mihaly respects the nature and our environment. The restaurant’s facade is an impressive green wall, while inside we grow a lot of plants and set up an aquaponics system (come to see it and Mihaly will tell you how it works.)

The interior is effortlessly authentic without being kitschy. The furniture is made by Mihaly’s son, Tamas and there are many arts and crafts on display by renowned artists. Not to mention, that the owner learnt to do pottery to be able to create the plates they serve the dishes on!

Open for the community and the world

We are Hungarian but multicultural and open for the world; we often have events ranging from tango evenings to concerts. We are also happy to be the be the venue for your next family reunion, celebration, party, or business event. We are 14 minutes from London Bridge; a few minutes walk from New Cross Gate Overground station.
